Over Gallery opened in December 2012 and works with a small but growing number of artists. All their work is contemporary, much is local and most is inspired by the natural world. It is run by Helen Taylor who has had a long interest in art, textiles and found objects. She has a passion for the outdoors, nature and its amazing colour palette.
Because of its village location the Gallery also serves the local community, and Helen enjoys always displaying a range of jewellery, ceramics, and glass, all from leading artists.
Before Over Gallery opened the building had fallen into a near-derelict state of repair, the house empty and the shop piled with debris. It had been built in 1886 as a house with an adjoining shop, as was common in Cambridgeshire villages at that time. But this shop was rather grand, the village equivalent of a department store, selling everything from ceramic ware, ladies hats, clothes and underwear, to food and household items, seeds for planting, gaiters, soap and even ice cream made on the premises with ice collected from Cambridge.
Now the Gallery is once more a vibrant space in the village and attracts visitors from Cambridge and beyond. Many combine their visit with a walk by the River Great Ouse, around one of the nearby RSPB reserves or lunch in a local pub. It's definitely worth a visit.
You'll find Over Gallery on Stand G5 in the small hall.
