Simon Hearnden of Berlin Walls Art Events joined Cambridge Art Fair under the banner of 'Works On Paper From Berlin' for the first time in 2017 with his collection of German Artists, notably Walter Lindner, who proved to be very popular with our visitors and collectors.
We're very pleased to announce that Simon is back again this year with a real focus on Walter Lindner's work, presenting a retrospective show of this wonderful artist.
After completing a degree at each of the Berlin Arts Universities in the 1950s, Walter Lindner had become a senior graphic designer at Siemens Berlin advertising department, before embarking on a solo career alongside his illustrator wife, Maria. He completed 40 years of exhibiting at the well-regarded Frankfurt Art Fair in 2005 and sold well at exhibitions throughout Germany, especially during the 1970s and 80s. However Lindner was an introvert and remained under the radar in terms of wider recognition, though highly regarded by his contemporaries.
Simon Hearnden unearthed the delightful, accomplished monotypes of the enigmatic Walter Lindner (1936-2007) in a street market in Berlin in 2006. As a graphic designer himself, Simon quickly recognized that Lindner was a true master of his oeuvre. He had no hesitation in selling his Oxfordshire home to purchase the contents of the artist’s studio, after the artist passed away not long after they had met.
For four fruitful decades Lindner perfected his somewhat unique technique - creating monotypes by painting with oils on to glass plates, before making a one-off print from the plate. The print became the basis for his unique, hand-finished, sometimes elaborately embellished, original artworks.
Looking great in almost any location, and with much humour or dark satire at times, these currently relatively inexpensive, exquisite compositions also present a possible investment opportunity. Wherever they are shown the works create considerable interest amongst collectors and artists alike. For Simon it will only be a fitting legacy for the artist once he becomes better regarded.
We look forward to seeing what Lindner treasures Simon brings to Cambridge Art Fair this year.

Jim Woodman Fine Art is a well established online gallery which was set up by Jim Woodman to show the work of a small group of artists at art fairs such as the Cambridge Art Fair, Affordable Art Fairs and Edinburgh Art Fair.
A painter himself, Jim has selected artists offering a wide diversity of work from the calm life studies of Angela Kilenyi painted in watercolour, to the vibrant energetic seascapes of Beverley Waller.
Jim brings together the work of artists from London and the southeast with those from the northwest of Scotland - reflecting his own lifestyle, working as he does in both locations. Offering something for all tastes from the very contemporary to traditional.
The artists are all professional painters with well deserved reputations in the area where they work and who exhibit regularly in solo and group shows.
Jim has participated in Cambridge Art Fair for many years now and always goes down very well with our visitors and collectors. We are very pleased to welcome him back for 2018 in our new venue at Quy Mill Hotel.
