Returning Exhibitor: Granta Fine Art

10/6/2018

Picture
We are very pleased to announce that 20th Century specialist Granta Fine Art is returning to Cambridge Art Fair for 2018.

With an eclectic collection of 20th century art, Granta Fine Art focuses on the development of a British tradition in the 20th century. As such, they have not restricted themselves to the narrow categories of 'Modern British' or 'Contemporary' but are fascinated by the sweep and breadth of the century. They have included works in the collection from the highly influential European Impressionist and Expressionist schools, without which (arguably) British Art could not have flourished as it did.

The result has been an eclectic mix of paintings and drawings spanning the 20th century from its roots in the 19th century to some of the more extreme expressions of the 21st century. Their aim is to make good art available to the collector at an affordable price and to advise their clients as they build their own unique art collections.

Returning Exhibitor: Walter Lindner (Berlin)

Picture
Simon Hearnden of Berlin Walls Art Events joined Cambridge Art Fair under the banner of 'Works On Paper From Berlin' for the first time in 2017 with his collection of German Artists, notably Walter Lindner, who proved to be very popular with our visitors and collectors.

We're very pleased to announce that Simon is back again this year with a real focus on Walter Lindner's work, presenting a retrospective show of this wonderful artist.

After completing a degree at each of the Berlin Arts Universities in the 1950s, Walter Lindner had become a senior graphic designer at Siemens Berlin advertising department, before embarking on a solo career alongside his illustrator wife, Maria. He completed 40 years of exhibiting at the well-regarded Frankfurt Art Fair in 2005 and sold well at exhibitions throughout Germany, especially during the 1970s and 80s. However Lindner was an introvert and remained under the radar in terms of wider recognition, though highly regarded by his contemporaries.
Picture
Simon Hearnden unearthed the delightful, accomplished monotypes of the enigmatic Walter Lindner (1936-2007) in a street market in Berlin in 2006. As a graphic designer himself, Simon quickly recognized that Lindner was a true master of his oeuvre. He had no hesitation in selling his Oxfordshire home to purchase the contents of the artist’s studio, after the artist passed away not long after they had met.

For four fruitful decades Lindner perfected his somewhat unique technique - creating monotypes by painting with oils on to glass plates, before making a one-off print from the plate. The print became the basis for his unique, hand-finished, sometimes elaborately embellished, original artworks.

Looking great in almost any location, and with much humour or dark satire at times, these currently relatively inexpensive, exquisite compositions also present a possible investment opportunity. Wherever they are shown the works create considerable interest amongst collectors and artists alike. For Simon it will only be a fitting legacy for the artist once he becomes better regarded.
We look forward to seeing what Lindner treasures Simon brings to Cambridge Art Fair this year.

Picture
Jim Woodman Fine Art is a well established online gallery which was set up by Jim Woodman to show the work of a small group of artists at art fairs such as the Cambridge Art Fair, Affordable Art Fairs and Edinburgh Art Fair.

A painter himself, Jim has selected artists offering a wide diversity of work from the calm life studies of Angela Kilenyi painted in watercolour, to the vibrant energetic seascapes of Beverley Waller.

Jim brings together the work of artists from London and the southeast with those from the northwest of Scotland - reflecting his own lifestyle, working as he does in both locations.  Offering something for all tastes from the very contemporary to traditional.

The artists are all professional painters with well deserved reputations in the area where they work and who exhibit regularly in solo and group shows.

Jim has participated in Cambridge Art Fair for many years now and always goes down very well with our visitors and collectors. We are very pleased to welcome him back for 2018 in our new venue at Quy Mill Hotel.

Figurative Artist Steven Lindsay With Lime Tree Gallery

8/11/2017

Picture
Don't miss the new paintings by the enormously popular and highly rated Artist Steven Lindsay at this year's Cambridge Art Fair.

Most of Lindsay's work is figurative and focuses on light, structure and composition. He believes that painting is a process of mark making and as such these marks should be evident and you can see the painterly quality throughout his impressive portfolio.

Estelle Lovatt, the art critic for the New Radio 2 Arts Show, said:

“Like revisiting Vermeer in the Dutch Golden Age of painterly skill against the Colour Field of Rothko, all intertwined with an aesthetic twist of contemporary, complex-simplicity. Lindsay using his paintbrush eloquently, capturing painterly conversations between the art history giants of a bygone age and a bygone art.”

You'll find a selection of new paintings by Lindsay with Lime Tree Gallery on Stand E3 up on the stage in the Large Hall. Click here to visit the gallery website

Scottish Colourist Alison McWhirter showing with Carina Haslam Art

8/11/2017

Picture
Alison McWhirter BA MA, born in Dumfries, Scotland in 1975, attended Bath Academy where she trained as a painter gaining a BA in Fine Art in 1998. She continued her studies to gain a Postgraduate MA in Visual Culture 2000. Bath Academy of Art has produced such luminaries as the colourist Howard Hodgkin.

After establishing a career in publishing, as well as teaching art, McWhirter returned to South West Scotland to pursue her career as a painter; her raison d’etre. Since moving to Glasgow in June 2012, McWhirter has had work accepted by the Royal Glasgow Institute to exhibit at the Annual RGI show in 2012 and 2013.

McWhirter’s studies of flowers are intimate compositions which evoke a mood through their vibrancy of colour and loose bold brushwork. Her paintings are instinctive responses to her subject, often mixing paint directly on the canvas, so creating a sense of spontaneity which is prevalent in all her work.

McWhirter has had exposure in The Scotland on Sunday in 2011 where she was described as ‘The new Scottish Colourist’. In 2012 Homes and Interiors Magazine deemed her to be one of the top Contemporary Scottish Colourists making waves in the art world. McWhirter’s instantly recognisable work is held in private collections throughout the UK. Her first solo London show in February 2016 was a major success.

You will be able to buy paintings by Alison McWhirter on the Carina Haslam Art stand B5/B6 in the Large Hall. Click here to visit Carina's website

We are very pleased to announce that London-based Julian Hartnoll will be participating at Cambridge Art Fair for the first time this year. Julian is the pre-eminent dealer and specialist in the works of JOHN BRATBY. Julian will be bringing his archive of Bianchini-Férier and the art work of a jobbing designer Louis Lang.

The Lyon-based silk manufacturer Bianchini-Férier was known for its innovative and lively fabrics in bright colours. In 1909 Charles Bianchini, one of the partners in the firm, had visited Vienna, a leading city for textile design. He subsequently established an office in Paris. This enabled him to cultivate good relations with the top Parisian couturiers, such as Lanvin, Patou and Poiret, who all bought dress fabrics from him. He also employed chic illustrators like Paul Iribe (1883-1935), Charles Martin (1848-1934) and Georges Barbier (1882-1932) to design textiles for the firm.

Louis Lang was one of a group of freelance designers who worked in Paris between the 20's and 50's. They would make their designs in the morning and then tour the fabric houses, selling in the afternoon. Many of his designs were used in the manufacture of scarves and dresses for the Parisian fashion industry.

Julian will be showing an impressive collection of work, all dating from mid to late 20th century, in designer gouache on paper. Make sure you visit Stand D2 in the Large Hall to see the collection for yourself and click here to visit Julian's website.

We are pleased to announce the return of Stephen Walton Fine Art to Cambridge Art Fair 2017. Stephen has participated with us for a couple of years as one half of Walton & Bovill. Due to personal circumstances and after two very happy and successful years the duo have closed their gallery in Long Melford. This allows Stephen to run his business in a much more flexible way. He will stay true to his to commitment of sourcing and selling a range of quality pictures sold at fair prices.

Stephen's specialism is what could broadly be described as ‘Modern British’. He champions the work of a small number of artists and stocks a wide selection of paintings, prints and sculpture.

He specialises in working with designers and individual clients in creating bespoke collages of pictures. His holistic approach to each project is rooted in his historical knowledge and an 'eye' for originality.

The Champagne Bar is back for 2017!

10/10/2017

Picture
Cambridge Art Fair will feature it’s very own Champagne Bar again in 2017, thanks to an ongoing partnership with Cambridge Champagne Company, exclusive UK suppliers of Champagne Dominique Boulard.

Craig Kerrecoe, Managing Director of Red Dot Events Limited, the organisers of Cambridge Art Fair, said-

“We are very pleased to be working with Paul and the team at Cambridge Champagne Company again for 2017. The Cambridge Champagne Company brings an exclusive product that will appeal to the discerning visitors that come to the fair. We look forward to hearing what our visitors think of their fabulous Champagne.”

Dominique Boulard’s family have been tending their vines for over 200 years. Every grape is picked by hand, so neither fruit nor vine is damaged. Each of the three classic champagne grape varieties are grown on Boulard family land. His vines grow on a perfect south-facing slope of the Vallée de la Marne, in the Grand Cru village of Mailly, and in a hamlet called – aptly – Paradis.

This hasn’t gone unnoticed by the prestigious wine guides Hachette des Vins and Gault & Millau. Indeed Dominique’s champagnes have beaten in blind tests many of the more famous brand names.

The Champagne Bar will be in the Large Hall, between the doors through to the Small Hall, right the very centre of fair.
