Matt Forster started painting in watercolour as a 13 year old, selling his first painting at 14, participating in local amateur group shows throughout his school years and eventually holding his first solo exhibition in 1993. After completing a science degree he opened his first studio gallery in a disused nightclub in Hexham.
In 2001 he decided to travel and spent a 2 year period abroad, with extensive periods in Mexico, North America, and Asia before settling in Otago, New Zealand. During this period, Matt immersed himself in painting and sketching and reading art history.
He returned to the UK in 2003 with a wide body of work and opened his second studio galleries in Newcastle upon Tyne between 2003 and 2009. He then returned to Back Street in Hexham where he firmly established the M J Forster studio and gallery.
He participates in many art fairs around the UK, bringing a small portfolio of represented artists with him. We are pleased to welcome him to Cambridge Art Fair for the first time in 2016.
You'll find M J Forster Gallery on Stand G5 in the Small Hall. In the meantime, click here to visit their website.
